Soulful Wisdom for a Meaningful Life ~ Inner guidance that illuminates our spiritual path and strengthens our deep, sacred connections
The “Wolf Moon” is the Native American name for the first Full Moon in January. As during this harsh winter month of intense cold, and long, dark nights, hungry wolf packs instinctively howled more frequently. A primaeval, soul-stirring sound with the howling wolves bridging the veil between worlds, and seen as communicating with the spirit world.
A time when tribes would huddle together for warmth and support, strengthening community bonds and connection with their “pack”, along with a time for personal reflection and connection with the “inner, instinctive, intuitive, wolf”. Emphasising the balance between community and independence.
At a Full Moon the Sun and Moon are in opposite signs, with this one across the Cancer-Capricorn axis. Bringing illumination to the need to find harmony between nurturing our inner world (Cancer) with our responsibilities and drive for achievement in the outer world (Capricorn).
The Cancer-Capricorn axis is about navigating the tug of war between how we feel – our need for emotional security – (Cancer) and what we do – our need to be self-reliant and achieve our personal goals – (Capricorn).
Our emotional needs, and bonds to our family and home (Cancer) and how we take care of our duties, and pursue our personal ambitions in the outer world (Capricorn).
This lunation is also another Supermoon, when the Moon is at the closest point to Earth in her orbit, making her bigger and brighter in the sky. Which also means that as Luna illuminates the night sky, her emotional and reflective energy is amplified, awakening our deepest emotions and intuition as she invites us to embrace the wisdom in our hearts.
Jupiter planet of wisdom and expansion, is with the Full Moon in Cancer, a sign where Jupiter is exalted. The Moon is powerful in her home sign, and ruler of this lunation.
Luna is also conjunct magical, spiritual, fixed star Sirius – the brightest star in the sky. An alignment that increases the emotional intensity and helps heighten spiritual intuition.
The Sun, Mercury, Venus and Mars are all in the opposite sign of Capricorn, with the Sun, Venus and Mars in a close, triple conjunction.
The Sun in Capricorn is focused on our long-term goals, Venus (love/desire) and Mars (assertiveness/drive) reveal themes around our relationships, finances, career and creativity.
The triple conjunction of the Sun with Venus and Mars – with both making their superior conjunctions with the Sun – is quite rare. The Sun-Venus exact conjunction is on 6th January, followed by the exact Sun-Mars conjunction on 9th January. A superior conjunction is like a full Moon, and can be a time of culmination around Venus (our relationships, love life, pleasures, creativity and finances) and Mars (assertiveness, drive, passion, our motivations – what ignites us and how we take action) ruled areas of life.
Mercury (communication/thinking) in Capricorn is serious minded. Is purposeful about uncovering deeper insight into the emotional discoveries the recent Grand Water Trines revealed, and organising the expansive, visionary ideas of Mercury in Sagittarius into focused, practical plans. A process that will continue to unfold during Mercury’s journey through Capricorn. Mercury will then enter Aquarius and make a superior conjunction with the Sun on 21st January.
Uranus Rx in Taurus is also influential as the Moon is semi-square Uranus and the Sun, Venus & Mars are sesquadrate Uranus. Which suggests the tension revealed by the opposing planets could be conflict-orientated or feel frustrating, and is likely to motivate us to question and adjust something. To try and resolve or walk away from any problems. It might be a new perspective on, or a radical shift in how we handle any issues or difficulties in our relationships.
The Moon and Jupiter in Cancer reveal deep emotion, a longing for emotional truth, security and authenticity. For us to connect with emotional and spiritual wisdom, and follow our inner truth, and intuition. The Sun, Mercury, Venus and Mars in Capricorn are urging us to clarify our relationships, our desires, and our motivations, and are helping us to define what we are building in life and manifesting in our outer reality.
This lunation helps to illuminate who, and what, authentically nourishes our soul (Cancer) and gives us structure and security in the outer world (Capricorn).
By aligning with Jupiter’s expansive wisdom it can help us to reveal what truly motivates our soul. Encouraging us to pursue our soul’s genuine desires rather than conforming to outer expectations.
And to have faith in our inner strength, to cultivate self-sufficiency and independence. Which doesn’t mean being alone, or doing everything solo, as staying true to our core beliefs leads us to those who share our values and support us. Towards deeper, more meaningful and compassionate connections with others.
A powerful moment to focus on our emotional truth and integrity, to clarify and authentically align ourselves with our core values and motivations, before taking genuine, honest, heartfelt action.
Wishing Full Moon blessings to all X
