Desire and Drive Illuminated by the Sun

This week both Venus and Mars will conjunct the Sun in Capricorn, and each other, then immediately afterwards oppose Jupiter in Cancer.

A planet between zero and 17 minutes from the Sun is termed “Cazimi” which means “In the Heart of the Sun”. This moment in time is advantageous and full of promise as the planet is rejuvenated and greatly strengthened by the Sun in all his glory.

On 6th January, the Sun is conjunct Venus – Venus Cazimi – when Venus experiences a process of being strengthened and purified by the Sun. Bringing us a renewed and clarified perspective on all Venusian matters – love, relationships, values, self-worth, creativity, earthly pleasures and abundance.

On 8th January Venus is conjunct Mars, helping ignite an inner flame both romantically and creatively. Illuminating our relationships and actions, and helping us to define what we value and find inspiring. Venus-Mars unite to instigate a new chapter in our desire and drive, to focus our aim towards following our deepest, heartfelt callings. Seeding a renewal or fresh start in our relationships and life direction

On 9th January the Sun and Mars are conjunct. Mars Cazimi is highly significant, as a new 2 year impetus for how and where we take action is put in motion.

The Sun is illuminating our self-expression, what our dreams and desires are (Venus), and our drive and inner willpower (Mars) to attain them.

Capricorn energy has a focus on earthly reality, and will plan and work hard to achieve status and success in the material world. And so the Capricorn stellium is bringing up our relationships, our motivations, our career and ambitions – our public life – with a practical, disciplined Capricorn tone of seriousness and responsibility.

Jupiter in Cancer

Jupiter in Cancer is expanding our emotional sensitivity and desire for emotional security  – our inner private world, home life and family bonds. And reveals a conflict, as Jupiter’s emotional truth and spiritual wisdom offers us a different perspective to Capricorn’s structured, earthly reality.

A point where we are asked to navigate our way to find our personal balance, between external earthly expectations, personal ambitions and material attainment (Capricorn stellium), and emotional truths, nurturing our soul, and spiritual growth (Jupiter).

Cardinal Grand Cross ~ 10th January

The Cardinal signs – Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn – all initiate energy and are about beginning new chapters in life. Currently, Chiron is in Aries, a sign that relates to the self, our personal identity, and is square the Capricorn stellium and Jupiter. When the Moon enters Libra, the sign of relationship and diplomacy – opposite Aries – on 9th January, a Cardinal Grand Cross starts to form.

This is powerful and pivotal energy, which is at peak intensity on 10th January when the Moon completes the cross. A 4-way tug of war between: Career/Status (Capricorn, Home/Family (Cancer), Self/Healing (Aries), Relationships (Libra). And as we navigate the days ahead there could certainly be some stress, tension, and drama, but this leads us to (ultimately beneficial) transformation.

Chiron in Aries

Chiron in Aries reveals our personal sensitivities and vulnerabilities, and how they influence our personal identity and self-confidence. With Saturn and Neptune closing in on their exact conjunction in Aries (20th February 2026) to ignite fiery beginnings that will require us to focus our effort, and take personal responsibility for bringing our dreams and spiritual ideals into reality – Chiron’s guidance is of favourable assistance.

Chiron square the Cancer-Capricorn opposition helps reveal where we may feel vulnerable, damaged or lack faith in ourselves. Illuminates our struggles, to enable us to uncover a deeper, inner understanding and guide us towards ways to learn from them. To turn our soft spots or past pain into a source of strength and resilience. Chiron mentors us to become more self-assured, self-assertive, and comfortable having initiative and taking the lead. To become more authentically ourselves, confident in our beliefs and committed to our chosen path.

The energy unleashed by the Grand Cross could feel like being pulled in 4 different and conflicting directions at once, and is a moment in time with all the separate demands on us when we are best to try and find our centre point, ways to balance them all, and evade conflict as far as we can.

Having said this, as cardinal energy pushes for action, significant experiences may occur or crucial decisions may have to be made that suddenly shift our direction in life. Whilst the nature of this energy is intense, it is growth oriented, as difficult challenges are catalysts of transformative, destined, beneficial change.

And brings an opportunity for us to consciously engage with the energy, to cultivate self-awareness, trust our intuition and align with a higher version of our “self” and our soul’s plan.

Saturn and Uranus ~ Support

There is also a supportive flow of energy from Saturn and Uranus, helping us navigate and harmoniously balance the tension. As the Capricorn stellium of planets, which also includes Mercury, will all in turn sextile Saturn and trine Uranus (15th – 20th January). This favourable support helps us to become clearer on our personal identity and on where our initiative is best directed. And offers opportunities ahead for us to structure (Saturn) and align with new approaches (Uranus) that support  our emotional needs (Jupiter) and empowers us towards meaningful achievement and future growth and success.

If your natal chart features planets or angles between 14 – 24° Capricorn, this energy will be particularly influential for you.
